There is a debate that surfaces every time a community experiences the loss of life of teen drivers who are involved in devastating automobile accidents. This debate centers on the maturity and ability of 16 year olds to operate a vehicle on our streets and roads safely.

Tragedy should never steal our children away from us. But, barring locking them away, what choice do we have but to regulate the amount of risk that we are willing to let them take in our quest to protect them? Are they too young to drive at 16?

Advocates, who say that they are, apply a set of rules to all teens regardless of their maturity level. That is not really fair to the teens. Yes, they should have to prove themselves worthy of the privilege by being properly trained and prepared for this task. But, to keep all teens from getting behind the wheel of a car because of the actions of some does not solve the problem entirely. Even at 18, a teen can make poor judgments that can result in life-changing incidents.

A better approach might include a few very important methods to help. First, comprehensive driver training that includes some type of real-world experience in how to handle a vehicle that is in an out-of-control situation. This will help teen drivers know how to handle slick roads and or conditions as well as supply them with a healthy respect for the vehicles in which they are driving and the conditions that can cause nasty accidents.

Next, it might be better to keep a teen driver under a longer probationary period which would include a ‘zero tolerance’ clause which would increase the stakes by revoking their license if they are involved in moving violations at which they are at fault.

Closer scrutiny by parents as to the location and activities that teens are using vehicles is another thing that can help, too. That can be made possible by the implementation of GPS Tracking devices in vehicles that are driven by teen drivers. These units can help parents know where their teenagers are driving to and HOW they are driving as well.

Let’s face it, all of us can recount incidents in our teen years that we wish now that we had never been involved or been a witness to. HELP – What to do if you mix the wrong ratio for industrial strength paint for concrete floors?

Since it is Sunday we cannot get tech help from the company we purchased the paint from, in 15 hours the business that we painted will open up and have 50+ employees walking around. At 6 AM this morning lines were painted on a concrete floor, however the wrong ratio was used. The paint is WAY to thin (not enough hardener was used) and now the paint is just sitting on the floor and not drying. Are there any suggestions to solve this problem because the paint will not dry without the hardner, and we have already put down 3.5 gallons worth of paint, that we now realize isn’t drying. The only offset for a low hardener ratio is to apply heat. I’m assuming you have added some hardener, which would be necessary for cure, pretty much regardless of heat. I don’t know how you’d heat a large floor area, tho, unless you have a bunch of heat lamps. You could always resort to pallets laid over the lines supported off the floor with a couple of 2×4’s. Hate to admit it, but I’ve had to resort to something like that once or twice over the course of my career.
