Williamsburg and James City County are premier locations for boating and fishing enthusiasts to live and visit in Virginia. The James River is just a short distance from the Chesapeake Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway. Marinas near the James River are a wonderful, restful berth for boaters and offer the amenities, and sometimes- dining. Inlets and coves used since colonial times and perhaps longer allow the boater a pleasant respite from the busy James River channel, which carries boats from the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel to the piers of Richmond, Virginia. There are several well-maintained public boat launches in the area that lead into the James or Chickahominy Rivers, or allow access to lakes or reservoirs.
Jamestown Yacht Basin (757)-229-8309
[http://www.jamestownyachtbasin.com]
If it is convenience to the James River you are searching for, the Jamestown Yacht Basin is located on Powhatan Creek, nearby Historic Jamestown, just a five-minute boat ride from the James River. Speed boats and jet skis are permitted to launch from this marina. Boats coming via the Colonial Parkway, on trailers, have a 12 foot height restriction, due to tunnels. The Yacht Basin has 125 wetslips, but they are usually booked, so call ahead. The fully functional marina has a boat launch and stocks boat supplies, ice, gas, and marine fuel. Fish caught in the immediate area include catfish, croaker, striped bass, and large mouth bass. Jamestown Yacht Basin is the only covered marina in James City County.
Kingsmill Marina (757)-253-3919
[http://www/kingsmill.com/recreation/marina.asp]
If docking and dining is on the plan for the evening, Kingsmill Marina is a pleasant place to unwind. It’s also an opportunity to experience all there is to do at Kingsmill Resort & Spa, including golfing, tennis, other recreation and traditional spa treatments such as massage and facials. Kingsmill has a full-service marina with 15 transient boat slips equipped with water and power connections. Concrete floating docks make embarking and disembarking easier, and the convenience of full-service dockside fueling may be welcome for some boaters. Have a bite to eat at The Deck at the Marina – with light fare and live entertainment complemented by a panoramic view of the James River. The marina store stocks boating and fishing supplies and other provisions. To access Kingsmill Resort & Spa’s Marina, which is just 35 miles upriver from the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, look for channel marker #40 on the James River.
Two Rivers Country Club Marina (757)-258-4863
[http://www.tworiverscountryclub.com/CountryClub/YachtClubStory.cfm]
Two Rivers Country Club is located in a protected, private harbor nearby the intersection of the James and Chickahominy Rivers One hundred boat slips can be housed at this Yacht Club with exclusive membership. There are 78 slips at the 25-50’ depth range. There are 8 transient slips at the Yacht Club. A maximum of 50’ boats are permitted. Water, electric, and boat dock boxes are included with all slips. Amenities include a boat launching ramp, fuel service, a terrace with a covered awning and tables, an office, shop, laundry, bathroom, showers, and ice.
Waller Mill Park, Williamsburg (757) 220-6178
[http://www.ci.williamsburg.va.us/dept/rec/parks.htm#waller]
This fishing lake is maintained by the City of Williamsburg Parks and Recreation and only rowboats, canoes, pedal boats and kayaks are allowed. No gasoline boats are permitted in Waller Mill Park, but electric motors are permitted, and they are available for rental for $15-20 per day. This is a great fishing lake — well stocked with striped bass, large mouth bass, blue gill, yellow and white perch, catfish, and red-earred bream. Fishing is only permitted from boats. Waller Mill Park is Williamsburg’s 2700-acre park situated around its reservoir and has been open to the public for 24 years. The 343-acre lake has a tunnel connecting the upper and lower sections of the lake. To get to Waller creek, take Airport Road (Rt. 645), which connects I-64 and Rt. 60 West.
Chickahominy Riverfront Park (828)-258-5020
[http://www.jccegov.com/recreation/chickahominy_park.html]
At the mouth of the Chickahominy River, approximately 1/2 mile from the James River is Chickahominy Riverfront Park which offers a four wide boat ramp. Speed boats and jet skis are permitted to launch here, and boats are also available for rental. For directions, log on to [http://www.jccegov.com/recreation/directions.html#Anchor-Chickahomin-40400].
Diascund Creek Resevoir
This public boat launch, Diascund Landing is overseen by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and is right in James City county. From Williamsburg, Go West on Rt. 60 at past Norge for 8 miles until the intersection of Route 603 north. Boat access is 1/2 mile on the right.
Marine Weather Reports
For any jaunts on the Rivers near Williamsburg and in James City County, always remember conditions can change. It’s a great idea to check the weather report before heading out for a boat cruise with family and friends. Here is a the National Weather Service Forecast, with a base in Wakefield, Virginia, just across the James River from Williamsburg. Consult the NOAA site for direct weather information: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/data/forecasts/VAZ090.php?warncounty=VAC095&city=Williamsburg.
Have a pleasant cruise on these Virginia rivers. If you are looking for a permanent home for your boat with a dock, contact me at 757-288-4685. Whether you are an employee or a business owner with his or her own office, you can use feng shui to make your office space more productive and harmonious.
Your first step is to stand at the doorway of your office or workspace and map out the areas according to the feng shui bagua. You can download a diagram of the bagua from our web site.
Your main focus will be your wealth and fame areas, although you should also pay attention to the other six areas and decorate them accordingly.
Here are some tips to keep the energy flowing in your office:
1. According to office feng shui guidelines, your desk should be placed at a diagonal to the doorway or directly facing it, rather than with your back to it.
2. If there’s more than one desk, place two on a diagonal facing towards the door and any others on a diagonal facing into the center of the room. They should not be placed in rows in a traditional classroom layout or back to back.
3. If the doorways of offices that face each other across a hallway are not exactly aligned, place a mirror on the front of each door.
4. If you face a partial wall or partition when entering an office, place a mirror on the partition.
5. Soften jutting walls with plants. If you don’t have a ‘green thumb’, artificial plants are just as effective as live ones.
6. Break up dull walls with mirrors or paintings.
The feng shui elements that are easiest to blend into an office decor are pictures and photographs. Look for pictures that represent the various aspects and display them in the appropriate areas of the room. Very obvious feng shui symbols may invite unwelcome questions from visitors or co-workers.
Feng Shui For A Home Office
Use office feng shui if you’re working from home to maintain a professional approach to your business.
1. Use a separate entrance to your office if at all possible.
2. Otherwise, choose a room near the front or back door of the house or apartment.
3. Separate your office from living areas to keep your business and personal lives separate.
4. If your office space is part of another room, divide it from the rest of the room with a screen or large plants.
5. Take a short walk before entering your office to work each day and another one at the end of your working day. This separates the business and personal aspects of your life.
6. Place your desk on the corner diagonally opposite to the doorway.
7. Don’t place your desk under a window, but let the light reflect on it from the side. Some people prefer to have their desks facing east.
8. Leave space between your furniture (bookshelves etc.) and the walls. Feng shui experts suggest leaving a 7-9 inch gap.
9. An important aspect of office feng shui is to keep your workspace tidy to allow a free flow of energy throughout the room.
10. Differentiate between clutter and storage. Stored items don’t have to be catalogued and labeled but they should be stacked neatly in a cupboard or in binders so as not to impede energy flow.
Obviously there’s a lot more to feng shui than what we’ve discussed in this article but you now have the basics for applying feng shui to your office space.
When you’ve made whatever changes you choose to incorporate, take a slow walk through your office and notice your spontaneous reaction. You should experience a sense of ease and flow, as opposed to feelings of claustrophobia, stress or overwhelm caused by too much clutter.

Ergonomics,
PDAs and company
wellness
programs are all
geared for healthier, more
productive employees. Each of
these has its role in whether an
employee wants to go to work,
goes willingly and produces
mightily or not.
The feel or impression
of the energy in the office is
the “unseen factor” that often
is the cause of excessive sick
days, increased stress and reduced
productivity. You may
be wondering how you can fix
a problem that is not tangible.
Feng Shui, an ancient Chinese
system used to determine the
beneficial or harmful effects of
land or buildings on human beings
that literally means wind
and water, provides simple
solutions that team members
can embrace.
Factors Seen and
Unseen
First we have to play
detective and find the culprit
of negative energy. We can
physically see some of the conditions
causing negative energy
like clutter, disorganization,
lack of cleanliness, chipped
and dirty paint, dated furniture
and a collection of accessories
old enough to span decades of
annual tax returns.
Finding the other “unseen”
conditions is more of
a challenge as they reside in
the realm of stagnant or stuck
energy, poor air quality and
environmental hazards — not
easily found or remembered as
foe.
In Feng Shui, often negative
conditions found in office
environments are those of
stuck or stagnant energy and
the lack of fresh air. These conditions
may cause depression
and complacency, leading to a
rise in the cost of maintaining
the retention and productivity
of employees.
Fallout of Negative
Energy
In the busy workday, we
go along meeting deadlines,
gaining new clients and making
payroll. There may be brief
moments of imparting gratitude
and thanks to employees;
however, overall, unless there
is a crisis, it’s business as
usual.
Then one day we are the
recipient of a wake up call
from this daily routine. It is
noticeable that the number
of employee sick days has
increased or that productivity
is down, we are “hiring”
again, and there is much more
stress among the employees.
These are the unexpected consequences
of not paying attention
to the “unseen factors” or
conditions in the workplace
environment.
Negative Energy
Is the Sentry
Yes, there it is, prominent
and problematic: The dead
shrub, the pile of free advertisements
tossed by the office
door or the cracked and crumbly
sidewalk with its stuck,
stagnant energy welcoming all
who enter.
Negative energy at your
front door is not conducive to
keeping your bottom line in
the black. Implement the following
five Feng Shui tips to
create positive energy for the
all-important first impression.
1. Neat and tidy. Make
that the company mantra.
2. Keep doors opening
wide. Obstructed doorways
limit creativity, productivity
and business.
3. Seeing is believing. Be
sure your signage is visible,
recognizable and emanates
your company’s image.
4. Light the way. Make it
joyful for employees to come
to work and easy for clients to
find your door.
5. Raise the chi. Add
something red around the
front entrance. A flowering
shrub with red berries such as
Nandina Domestica, some red
lettering on the door, a banner
or flag all add a flair of cheerfulness
for all who enter.
Positive Energy in the
Workplace
You may not be able to
sense negative energy, but here
are six fast tips to create positive
energy in your office.
1. No clutter. Insist on clutter-
free desks and work spaces.
Pull the team together, develop
a plan and set a timeline to
get clutter under control. The
buddy system works well
here. Allow adequate time
and a guilt-free environment
to complete the task. Plan periodic
“clutter busting” work
days throughout the year to
keep clutter under control and
positive energy high.
2. Reduce toxins. Install
toxin-eating indoor plants.
Peace Lilies are forgiving, easy
to grow and produce beautiful
blooms, and they can be positioned
nicely over a cubicle, on
a desk or on the floor.
3. Create clean air. Exchange
poor air quality by
opening doors and windows
daily. If this is not possible,
diffuse pure essential oils (no
flame) to cleanse the air or
install an ionizer or both.
4. Increase motivation. Adequate
and beneficial lighting,
such as full-spectrum, is essential
to health and happiness.
Replace overhead florescent
bulbs, add up-lighting in dark
corners and provide a variety of
lighting options to employees
as some are sensitive to different
types of wavelengths.
5. Reduce stress. A proper
type of sound is soothing. Kinetic
sculptures, soft but stimulating
music and area fans add
movement to sound to provide
a double-duo for a comfortable
Feng Shui
is your friend.
Use these basic
principles in your office, review
and renew them frequently to
keep the office energy positive
and the cash flow in the black.

Office Chair Wood
by richard on Dec.24, 2002, under Office Chairs
Office furniture chairs come in all sizes, shapes, designs and materials. And though desks have been around for hundreds of years, in one form or another, the modern office chair was first used in the mid to late 1800’s. The closest thing to a modern office chair was used by Charles Darwin. He put wheels on his chair so that he could move around easier when reaching for his specimens. Since that time, and especially during the 1900’s, the office chair has evolved a lot. Here are some of the types of office furniture chairs that can be found in most offices today.
- Executive chairs – what exactly constitutes a chair to be called “executive”? Well, there is no definite standard. Many companies just call their best chair an executive chair. Generally speaking, this chair is of high quality, and are used by executives who want the best office furniture possible. These chairs are made of the highest quality materials throughout, are usually covered in a top grain leather and are the type of chair that is made to last. They often have the latest ergonomic technology to provide comfort all day long, contoured to fit your body and fully adjustable. You do not have to replace this chair every couple of years. If you have an “executive” chair that does not last long, then it is executive in name only.
- Task chairs – these are the normal everyday office furniture chairs that most people use at home. These can be very cheap, acquired at your local discount store for under $30, or can be ten times this amount for a good one that will last awhile. These can be cloth, leather (real or fake) or made of other man made materials. Many will have ergonomic features such as lumbar support, and are also adjustable in multiple ways. Most of us can find a task chair that will suit our daily use, you just have to take the time to try out a fair number of them to discover what will work best for you.
- Mesh chairs – I first saw a mesh chair about 15 years ago, though I suppose they have been around a bit longer than that. These are basically task or executive chairs that have a mesh back. Most are still fully adjustable and ergonomic, but the mesh back provides great ventilation and breathability. Some even have mesh seats!
- Wood chairs – these were found a lot before modern office furniture chairs became an ergonomic science, but the can still be found today. However, they usually only swivel and rise up and down and are not ergonomic in other ways.
- Guest and visitor chairs – these office furniture chairs are often found in waiting rooms or executive offices for guests and visitors to sit in. These come in all sorts of styles, they do not have castors and are normally designed to be quite comfortable. They are not usually very large or overstuffed.
- Conference room chairs – also not very large, often have padded seats and backs, sometimes castors. Designed for many of them to fit around a conference table, and sometimes quite nice to match a high quality table.
We have definitely come a long way since sitting in little wooden chairs at our desk and in our offices. With all the styles available, you can find office furniture chairs to suit all of your office and home office needs.

With our economy, many people need to find ways to save more money. One way that many families are saving money is just by simply downsizing. One thing that a lot of people are downsizing are their homes. They are finding that they can really survive on a lot less space to save more money. If you have done this and have given up your guest bedroom, there is no reason to stop having guests. It is common now to look toward sofa beds.
Sofa beds are a great dual purpose piece of furniture. You will be able to use it as a regular couch with your family. You will also be able to make it into an extra bed when people come over to spend the night with you. The best thing to do is to buy the most comfortable sofa bed that you can at a price that you feel comfortable with. You don’t want to pay more than you can afford.
There are so many different types of sofa-beds that are now available. Because they are becoming so popular, furniture companies are offering larger selections at lower prices. You can actually go online and find many websites that are dedicated to just selling sofa beds. This is the easiest way to buy them.
When you go online, you can look at some great pictures that will give you a great idea of how it will look in your home. You will also be able to read detailed descriptions to help you choose just the right one for your home and your family.
When you shop online, you are shopping from the comforts of your home. This is much easier for most people than going to many different stores and driving around for hours. Plus, you won’t have to worry about delivery and what time they are going to deliver it. This is much easier and faster.
One way to verify if the sofa-bed that you are considering is comfortable or not is to read customer reviews online. The customer reviews are really the best way to make sure that a sofa-bed is good enough to buy. You will find out if there are any problems with the sofa-beds or not.
Since there are many different types of sofa beds that you can buy, you should make sure that you do enough research before you seriously consider buying a sofa-bed. You don’t want to find out later that you could have bought an even better sofa bed. You will need to make sure that the sofa bed that you buy has a good, comfortable mattress on it. You don’t want your guests getting backaches because you bought an uncomfortable sofa bed.
Purchasing a great sofa bed really doesn’t have to be all that complicated. Just go online and do enough research. You will be glad that you did when you have the perfect sofa bed delivered to your home. Your guests will love it.

Modular Home Office Furniture
by richard on Dec.13, 2002, under Office Funiture
Cost is the bottom line for any construction project. Modular buildings are cost effective because of less labor and material cost. Labor effort is maximized by factory construction and material waste is minimized.
Costs for modular buildings can differ quite radically from $35 to $200 per square foot. The factors that affect price include the size of the building, quality of material and complexity of the construction. Though certain regions have low cost of modular buildings, it is not possible to take advantage of that as the shipping costs turn out to be more.
Transportable classrooms, offices and simple buildings are inexpensive building options. Medical offices are more expensive. Sophisticated buildings with extensive wiring or high quality building material result in building costs that turn out to be quite expensive.
On a typical job site, overhead expenses due to bad weather and in the form of construction delays and damages to building products take place. It is seen that constructors waste valuable time traveling between multiple jobs and running out of supplies. Carpenters, electricians and plumbers who are very necessary in building homes, typically get more work done working on an assembly line than the typical subcontractor doing the same work at the job site. Thus, they become more cost effective in a modular construction.
In terms of financing, the buyer can choose to buy or lease a modular building according to his personal preference. Before making a final decision, the buyer needs to weigh all the pros and cons. It is critical that the buyer ensures that bids are truly competitive before choosing solely on price factor. It is advisable that the buyer checks the quality of fixtures, doors, walls and carpeting before finalizing the contract. The buyer should also ensure that the total cost includes all costs including installation.
Modular Buildings provides detailed information on Modular Buildings, Modular Office Buildings, Concrete Modular Buildings, Modular School Buildings and more. Modular Buildings is affiliated with Modular Home Manufacturers.

Office Chair Kills Boy
by richard on Dec.12, 2002, under Office Chairs

- No matter how much I’ve tried, I just can’t get out of bed this morning. I swear, it’s like I’m nailed to the bed.
- I have an awful case of diarrhea and have had to sit on the john for the past three hours. In fact, I’m still there as we speak. It seems I have run out of toilet paper and now have to wait for my roommate to return from work so she can go out and buy me some.
- I ate a bean burrito for dinner last night and now my farts stink so bad my dog runs to the front door every time I let one rip. For the sake of my co-workers, it may be best that I not expose them to such toxic fumes.
- I accidentally swallowed a sleeping pill instead of my birth control pill this morning. Now I am wobbling all over the place and can’t remember how to get to work.
- My roommate cooked a pig in the crockpot all night and it stunk up the entire apartment. I woke up feeling sick to my stomach.
- I slipped on a banana skin and fell into a huge pile of dog poo as I was walking to the metro this morning. Since I was wearing my only clean outfit, I had to go back home and run three laundry cycles to get rid of the stain and the smell.
- My cat fell from my fourth-floor window. He wasn’t moving for a minute, so I panicked and tried to give her mouth-to-mouth, but she was still conscious and bit me hard on the lip. I had to go to the hospital to get some stitches.
- Boss, I am calling you to let you know I won’t be able to come into work today, tomorrow or ever. I’m going to commit suicide as soon as I hang up the phone.
- Some kid in the neighborhood played a prank on me and slashed all four of my tires. Now I have to get them all replaced.
- I’m having a mental breakdown. I think I’m going to die! Quick, where’s my therapist’s number?
- Sir, my privates are itching and burning like hell. I don’t think I could wiggle through another day on my office chair. I need to see my gynecologist asap.

If you are a nut HGTV and Trading Spaces, you know you do not have a fortune to start an exchange house total. By making do with what you have, the reorganization and optimization your space, you can make your home look bigger, brighter and more functional. For the simple furniture designs can save money, read on to 4 great tips on how to arrange your furniture.
1. Objective symmetry.
The key to designing great symmetry. You do not want the room to feel heavy or unbalanced composition. Parts instead of excluding any furniture or accent at one end, aim for a design that is balanced and even.
That sense of symmetry also applies to color. If you have a dark and heavy piece of furniture weight on one side of the room, trying to clarify up with a pillow or lamp cheerfully alive.
2. Create focal points.
Accent Pieces your best and make a room pop, giving a point focal. A major focal point can be as simple as painting over the fireplace or a bright and comfortable chair.
Instead of making your TV in the middle of your living room be, in turn focus to his beautiful coffee table with a striking dish or centerpiece. Also, remember that while you do not overload the focal points, because they want the room look too busy, you can have more than one. Aim for two to three attention-grabbing focal point in any room of great size.
3. Optimize space.
Try to choose a design that gives a feeling of space and openness. Instead of blocking your living room a sofa in front of the entrance parking, arrange the furniture for the room has flow.
In addition, pulling the furniture away from walls can actually create the illusion of more space. It may seem contradictory, but this simple maneuver gives the room space to "breathe" and creates the overall appearance of space.
4. Make it functional.
No matter how big it seems, a furniture design will not work if you're constantly bumping into the final table or have to get up and walk across the room every time you need something from the coffee table.
As important as it is to create a space that is open and balanced you still need to be fully functional. Before committing to any design of furniture, try for a few days and see how you like.
